What to Consider Before Traveling in Europe:
Real ID or Star Driver’s License and Passports
As of May 25, 2025, all American citizens must have a TSA-approved Real ID or Star driver’s license to board planes. To travel abroad, everyone must have a US-issued passport and a star driver’s license. In preparation for a luxury European honeymoon, ensure both forms of identification are valid and haven’t expired.
Visas and ETIAS
In mid-2025, all travelers entering Europe must get approval through the European Travel Information and Authorization System. American citizens could previously travel to and around Europe without a travel visa. However, once this requirement goes into effect, US travelers must submit an ETIAS application and get approval before entering any European country.
The ETIAS approval grants travel to European countries for up to 90 days. Check the CIBT website for your country and review the ETIAS requirements before planning your luxury honeymoon.
Trip Planning
Review details for local hotels and resorts where you want to visit. Book your reservations in advance and print out your confirmation emails. Read important information about attractions you want to visit and abide by any restrictions. Securing a guide for the preferred areas is recommended to ensure your safety, optimize your experience, and prevent cultural or language barriers.
Trip… More Planning
You will obviously want to make mental notes of where all you are planning on going so you can pack accordingly. There would be no desire in packing two outfits for a trip that is two weeks long. Well at least not if your’e travel accommodations do not even supply a washer and dryer. However, this could be a different paced trip and you may plan on acquiring a whole new wardrobe to bring back with you upon post-travel. Whichever is the case, you may want to list out all items you plan on bringing and some you may even just want to make sure you leave at your residence before you go.
The Importance of Travel Insurance
Travel insurance provides coverage for unforeseen illnesses and injuries during your European honeymoon. You’ll also gain coverage for canceled flights or experiences, such as tours or services. If you lose your luggage, travel insurance reimburses you for financial losses. Review your coverage level, deductibles, and restrictions for travel insurance. You may need additional coverage if you bring valuables with you on your trip.
Check your insurance coverage provided by your bank and credit card companies. Ensure that you have adequate coverage to mitigate major financial losses if you misplace your credit or debit card while traveling. Evaluate any costs related to card replacement while you are abroad.
No Travel Insurance… No Good Time
Unfortunately, travel insurance is sometimes not just a want but a need when traveling internationally. Dependent upon stay times the place you are traveling to may require you have a specific type of travel insurance or at least a plan that has health insurance included within it. Trust me the last thing you want is getting sick when in a foreign country with no insurance, or even worse your significant other contracting an infection or disease on the road. Imagine, you do not speak the language and then they don’t take your insurance either. You would simply not even know what you are being charged for by the end of a doctor’s visit. However, Google Translate is a thing I guess.

They also can create a special beer to commemorate your visit, some with beer art that can be made to last a lifetime.
What to Do to Avoid Forgetting Anything When Traveling
Most hotels and resorts have a safe in their guest rooms. You can place items, such as passports, driver’s licenses, valuables, and your ETIAS documents, in the safe to avoid losing them. Use storage like closets and dressers for your personal items and avoid misplacing these items.
Create a checklist for packing at home and at each location you visit and print copies of the checklist according to how many places you’ll go in Europe. You may even want to check each others list and go down them as you will not want to waste any time bickering on your honeymoon! Create customs forms for every place where you make purchases and attach the receipts to these forms. Keep all these documents in a large envelope to avoid losing them. You’ll present these customs forms to officers at your last European location before departing for the US.
After your European honeymoon, have all your identification and customs forms easily accessible before leaving for the airport. Review all US customs restrictions for bringing items from Europe back into the US to avoid issues. You must provide all customs forms at the airport and answer questions before you board your plane to the US.
Upon your arrival to the US, you must provide identification and answer questions about items you’ve brought back from Europe. Exploring all travel requirements gives you a more enjoyable European honeymoon and ensures everything goes well when returning to the US. And no matter where you head off to next, always remember to Travel Till You Drop!
